COOLING DOWN

COOLING DOWN seeks to propose a vision for a renewable cooling sector in Europe in the coming decades, and issue policy recommendations and proposals to achieve it. Beyond the technological, economic, and social trends to be assessed through research, expert consultations and modelling, the COOLING DOWN project will also be seeking to address the contribution of renewable cooling technologies to climate change adaptation with a specific focus on the mitigation of the urban heat island effect.

The Cooling Down project has successfully published the results of its WP2 deliverable, “State of the Art on Cooling.” This comprehensive document showcases the project’s meticulous research and analysis of current and future cooling technologies, assessing cooling demand and evaluating the performance of integrated cooling system indicators. As global temperatures continue to rise, the insights and recommendations from this deliverable will play a crucial role in shaping the future of cooling systems, ensuring they are both efficient and sustainable.

Pitfalls in diagnosing temperature extremes

Worsening temperature extremes are among the most severe impacts of human-induced climate change. This article shows that running seasonal windows as used in many studies in recent years introduce a time-, region-, and dataset-depended bias that can lead to a striking underestimation of the expected extreme frequency.
